A parish nurse focuses on the whole person to emphasize wellness, disease prevention, and health promotion, including healthy spirituality.

Roles of the parish nurse:

• Integrator of Faith and Health - works to improve health of mind, body, and spirit.
• Health Educator - provides educational opportunities on various health related topics.
• Health Counselor - discusses health concerns and encourages a healthy lifestyle.
• Health Advocate - speaks out to assist others in obtaining needed health care.
• Referral Advisor - provides referral to healthcare and social services as needed.
• Volunteer care coordinator - coordinates care for those in need.
• Developer of support groups - facilitates support groups based on the church community’s need.
